Former Northland teacher to serve five years for child pornography, firearms charges

DULUTH, MN –
A former Northland schoolteacher learned his sentence Thursday after admitting to possession of child pornography and firearms charges.
56-year-old Daniel Joseph Kludt of Saginaw will serve a maximum of five years for two counts of child pornography and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Kludt, a former elementary school teacher in Duluth and Superior, had previously been convicted of child sexual abuse in 1998, making him a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the criminal complaint, a number of electronic devices and nearly three dozen firearms were seized during a search of of Kludt’s property after officials were called there for a domestic disturbance.
The electronic devices included thousands of images and video of child erotica, as well as suspected child pornography, according to charges filed
The criminal complaint says to date, an investigator was able to identify children in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in six of the obtained images.
Kludt’s sentence is part of a plea deal that dismissed a domestic abuse charge.
At least two-thirds of his sentence will be spent in prison, however he could spend the last one-third of his sentence could be spend on a supervised release due to good behavior.
He will receive credit for the 137 days spent behind bars.
