Norfolk Councilwoman Angelia Graves: Yesterday’s KKK Members Are Today’s Police Officers

Norfolk, Virginia – Councilwoman Angelia Graves stated “yesterday’s KKK members are today’s police officers” during a fundraiser in downtown Norfolk.

Angelia Graves, a Norfolk councilwoman, walked on stage at a NAACP luncheon early last month and told the attending crowd, “Yesterday’s Klue Klux Klan members are today’s police officers.”

The Washington Post reports Graves told everyone at the benefit

“Modern racists have taken off their white hats and white-sheeted robes and put on police uniforms. Some of them have put on shirts and ties as policymakers and some of them have put on robes as judges.”
This statement made by councilwoman Graves was so ridiculous, even the NAACP has tried to distance themselves from what she’s said. Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe, a democrat and 20 year NAACP member, told WP

“When you have comments from either side that are inappropriate or racist or over the line, then it kind of defeats the purpose.”
Graves also stated that law enforcement officers are too quick to use lethal force on minorities. Graves apparently watches too much CNN and hasn’t seen the recent studies proving that police do not unjustly shoot black people.

That whole “white cops run around shooting black males for having the nerve of being black” narrative that the mainstream media has been pushing the past few years has repeatedly been proven to be false. Study after study shows that police shootings are not biased towards black people.

It’s statements like this that further indoctrinate people with the anti-police narrative, fueling hatred towards police. That’s the same hate that eventually makes people ambush and kill officers.

Councilwoman Graves is doing nothing but hurting the relationship between the black community and the police officers who patrol the streets of Norfolk everyday.

Ignorant comments like this make you wonder how these people were even elected to the positions that they are in.
