A St. Paul woman pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Ramsey County District Court on Monday. The charge stems from her sexual relationship with a man under her supervision at a St. Paul residential corrections facility.

Karen Marie Watson, 28, was charged in June after the facility’s director of correction services reported the relationship to St. Paul police, according to the criminal complaint.

Watson was working as a re-entry technician and shift supervisor at RS Eden when she developed a sexual relationship with a 26-year-old man sent there to await sentencing in a federal court case, charges said.

RS Eden is a St. Paul community-based residential corrections and substance-abuse facility that contracts with the Minnesota Department of Corrections, Ramsey and Hennepin County Community Corrections, and the United States Pretrial Services.

The two had sex on several occasions, including at the facility, in a hospital where the man was receiving medical care, and in Watson’s car after she picked him up from the hospital to drive him back to RS Eden, the complaint said.

Watson gave the man a Samsung cellphone for personal use, which is not permitted by RS Eden. He used it to take videos and photographs of the two engaged in sexual acts at the hospital, charges say.

Watson was no longer employed at RS Eden when charges were filed. Her sentencing is scheduled for February.
