A 44-year-old Cloquet man was arrested Thursday in connection to several controlled substances being found in his vehicle.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man was stopped by a deputy shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, based on prior information that the man was transporting controlled substances.

The man refused a search of his vehicle and a sheriff’s office K-9 indicated there was an odor of a controlled substance in the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The car was towed to the sheriff’s office and during the execution of a search warrant on the vehicle, law enforcement found psychedelic mushrooms, a small amount of marijuana and 2 pounds of methamphetamine. The methamphetamine is believed to have a street value of more than $40,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was arrested Thursday on multiple preliminary charges, including first-degree possession of methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office also reported that a 42-year-old man, who doesn’t have an address, was arrested on Aug. 22 on a preliminary charge of first-degree of possession of a controlled substance after a sheriff’s deputy found 4 ounces of methamphetamine during a search of his vehicle.
