3 Minnesota women caught with $3 million of heroin, opium in luggage

Three Minnesota women were arrested at O’Hare International AIrport after authorities said they found heroin and opium in their luggage.

Three women from the Twin Cities area are facing felony charges after U.S. Customs agents on Tuesday afternoon found heroin and opium valued at more than $3 million in their luggage at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

The women, Pa Yang, 57, and Mai Vue Vang, 58, both of St. Paul, and True Thao, 52, of Brooklyn Center, were arrested by agents after they stepped off an international flight from Japan at O’Hare’s Terminal 5, Chicago police said.

Agents searched their luggage and found numerous small packets of heroin and opium. The combined weight of the contraband was 31.5 kilograms and had a street value of more than $3 million, police said.

The women were arrested and each charged with one felony count of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, police said.

They are due in Cook County Court in Chicago Wednesday.
