Madison, WI ( — Starting next week, some residents will have to pass a drug test in order to get unemployment benefits.
Governor Scott Walker’s office announced the rule Wednesday after he approved an emergency request by the state’s Department of Workforce Development.

People who fail a drug test while receiving unemployment will lose the benefits, as will anyone who refuses to take a test requested from a potential employer.
It is not clear what protocol will be used to single out U-I benefit earners to be tested.
